Storefronts Seattle has a new virtual home!

Storefronts artist John Fleming prepares his installation in one vacant storefront

Welcome to the official website and blog of Storefronts Seattle! We are excited to announce the new home of this community project that strives to revitalize Seattle’s neighborhoods by activating vacant spaces with art and art enterprises.

Starting Thursday, September 2nd, local artists will use vacant retail spaces in the Pioneer Square and Chinatown-International District neighborhoods to display their artwork, house their creative enterprises and establish artist residencies.

The project kicks off with fourteen artists and arts groups in a total of ten storefronts in Pioneer Square and Chinatown-International District.  Twelve more artists and arts groups will install in late November, keeping the pilot phase of Storefronts active through February 2011.

Storefronts Seattle is the latest among several other programs aiming to enliven communities and activate empty spaces with art. San Francisco, Portland, New York and Tacoma, WA have launched similar projects with success.
