Welcome to Storefronts Seattle. We put art and artists into empty storefronts.
Storefronts Seattle was launched in 2010 as a neighborhood support program, designed to fight the urban blight that had attacked Seattle’s historic retail core. The arts were seen as the tool with which the program could affect change on the streetscape, and could help buoy a teetering local economy.
Storefronts Seattle is a program of Shunpike, which fuels innovation in the arts by building productive partnerships, cultivating leadership and providing direct services to arts groups of all kinds.
Through Storefronts, Shunpike is partnering with city and business leaders to bring artistic activity to vacant retail spaces in several Seattle neighborhoods and downtowns of other area cities.
“This innovative program is a great collaboration between our business and art communities. Storefronts Seattle shines a spotlight on Seattle’s creative sector, brings new life to empty storefronts and enlivens our neighborhood business districts.”
- Mayor Mike McGinn, Seattle
